Youthful looks lead Asians to delay IVF

ASIAN women put off having children for much longer than their non-Asian counterparts because they feel and look younger, Australian research has revealed.

IVF Australia's clinical director and study co-author Andrew Kan said that Asian women were markedly older than Caucasian patients when they first sought fertility treatment.

"There is a common belief among Asian women that, because they look younger, that somehow their reproductive organs age slower than non-Asian women. We found that this is not the case," he said.

Dr Kan, who will present his findings at the Asian Pacific Initiative on Reproductive Endocrinology Conference in China this week, said Asian women reduced their chances of conceiving by waiting too long to have fertility treatment.
