Dr. Judith Gerber, a medical psychologist at Fletcher Allen Health Care, provides counseling to individuals and couples using fertility treatments. Along with educating patients, she helps couples work through issues such as relationship problems, and religious and ethical beliefs as they relate to treatment.
Gerber had this advice for people who are dealing with infertility issues:
- Look at this as a year-long process.
- Try to move on and not get discouraged after one failed attempt.
- Don’t neglect the rest of your life.
- If you have pregnant friends and it is difficult for you to be around them, be honest about your feelings rather than avoiding them.
- Set boundaries with family and friends who want to know how things are going; tell them you will let them know when you have something to report.
- Consider other options to create your family.
